Gratitude is often born in places we never expected—
not only in moments of joy, but also through valleys we did not choose.
For many of us, thanksgiving has been shaped by shadows, refined by sorrow,
and deepened by the God who met us there.
The Shepherd who led us beside quiet waters
is the same One who stood with us in nights of aching and loss.
He carried us when our strength failed,
held us when our hearts broke,
and breathed peace into the places where hope seemed gone.
Thanksgiving, then, becomes more than a holiday.
It becomes a testimony—
a remembrance of mercy in the morning,
comfort in the night,
and grace that followed us through every chapter
we thought would undo us.
This poem is an offering of that journey:
the joy, the ache, the rescue, the renewal.
It invites every weary heart to remember
that gratitude grows deepest
where God has been nearest.
